The collapsible design makes it easy to toss in my pack for weekend hikes, and the steel head feels sturdy enough for real digging. Took it out to clear a fire pit and it handled the rocky soil without any wobble.
The head slides onto the handle with a satisfying snug fit, and the whole thing feels solid enough for actual digging, not just display. I took it out to clear brush along the fence line and it held up great, though I’m keeping it clean to preserve that field look.
The fold-over handle locks tight and the head feels solid in the hand, just like the period photos I've seen. Carried it on a weekend camping trip and it dug through packed dirt without a wobble. Exactly what I wanted for reenactment and light bushcraft.
